Healthy Winter: How to stay active/fit during winters?

As the temperature starts to drop, we see ourselves sitting on our couch, with electric heaters, wrapped in our blankets and sipping that warm cup of chai, accompanied by some comfort food. Thus we know, winters are here and there is no escaping from the cozy and warm feeling. But as humans it is important to stay active, not only during winters but all four seasons. 

Apart from the reduction in activity level, winters also bring cold and flu along with it. This season also makes your skin go dry. Hence, it becomes vital to safeguard yourself from the rage of this cold weather and stay healthy throughout the season. Even though it seems complicated, there are several ways to keep your family away from commonly suffering ailments. Here’s a list of precautions you should take to keep yourself healthy during the winter season.

Do Not Stress 

According to various studies, a person becomes prone to catch a cold or flu under a high-stress level. Hence, it is advisable to keep your stress to the minimum be it personal or professional. Taking a break and relaxing your mind is the key to keep away from cold or flu and also it helps in maintaining healthy emotional health too.

Healthy Eating Habits

Eating right is very important during this season. Maintaining a healthy diet full of fresh veggies, fruits, and lean meats is a very good way to keep your body active and to work in excellent condition.

Keep yourself hydrated at all times

In the winter season, your body does not get the required moisture as other seasons as the air becomes very dry. In order to keep your skin healthy, it is important to intake the right amount of water each day. It is advisable to drink at least 8 glasses of water in a day.

Activity level 

It goes without saying that regular exercise is essential for our bodies. Staying active will help promote bone and muscle health, improve sleep patterns, and control weight, leading to an overall healthier lifestyle. Washing your hands regularly with soap and water will clean your hands from germs and help you protect yourself from respiratory infections and viruses. For those instances where you can’t get soap and water, keep a bottle of hand sanitizer close-by to make sure you don’t have to compromise.

Have a good night sleep

Sleep is like the fuel that recharges your batteries! You need to have enough sleep to keep your body charged. An average person needs around 6-8 hours of sleep per night. Not getting enough sleep, will make your body extremely vulnerable to illness.

All these things become essential to do and perform for your own betterment during this lousy season. By staying fit during Winter you will be able to avoid gaining weight and avoid losing strength and stamina caused by inactivity. Just as tulips need winter nourishment from the Earth to strongly bloom in Spring, humans need to continue to nourish their bodies during winter so they too can bloom in Spring.
